Humboldtian Town Halls

As part of our effort to get on-the-ground perspectives from researchers across the United States, we invited our Humboldt Network Liaisons (HNLs) to share how their research has been affected by the policies of the current US administration and how the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation could be helpful to scientists and scholars. AFAvH organized three “town hall” meetings between alumni and AvH senior staff in April, May, and June. The discussion themes included funding uncertainties and fears of further cuts to academic and international programs; the reluctance of international students to leave the United States due to fears about their visa status; cuts to diversity-related programs; the curtailing of academic freedom and the creation of a culture of fear on campuses; an overall decline in graduate program applications; and rising academic migration out of the United States. The Town Halls will resume in fall 2025 and will be open to the entire US Humboldt alumni network.
